Position Summary:
 
The Wagar lab is part of the Department of Physiology & Biophysics in the School of Medicine at UCI. We are also members of the Institute for Immunology, Center for Virus Research, and the Vaccine R&D Center. There is a vibrant community of immunologists, vaccine researchers, and mathematical, computational, and systems biologists at UCI all focused on handling big data and developing novel analysis strategies.
 
The incumbent will perform essential data management and analysis functions for an adjuvant comparison and characterization program performed in collaboration with the Vaccine R&D Center. The Wagar lab will serve as the Data Management Core for a multi-PI study to identify and characterize the optimal features of vaccine adjuvants. We are looking for an individual with the necessary skills to manage large data sets, integrate different data types, develop creative, new strategies for analysis, and communicate with the entire study team to inform future experimental design. The position will be 100% dry-lab.

Required:
 
2+ years of experience in bioinformatics, data science, and/or data analysis, culminating in one or more peer-reviewed publications that demonstrate these skills. Experience from an academic setting (e.g. master’s degree) or from industry is acceptable.
Bachelor's degree in biological science, computational / programming, or related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner. Ability to contribute to study design, recommend new areas of research investigation based on current data. Self-motivated, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills. Interpersonal skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Working knowledge of databases, common bioinformatics pipelines, and data integration methods.
 
Preferred:
 
Working project management skills Working knowledge of modern biology and applicable field of research (immunology, adjuvants, vaccine design).
