Position Summary:

 
Under general direction of the Director, Industry Sponsored Research and functioning as part of a team, provide high quality support and customer service to faculty, staff and sponsor representatives. Assist faculty and staff regarding proposal preparation, award administration and compliance issues. Serve as the primary liaison between the University and extramural sponsors. Review and endorse extramural grant, cooperative agreement, contract and subcontract proposals. Negotiate and sign/accept grants, cooperative agreements, contracts and subcontracts on behalf of The Regents. Coordinate the acceptance of awards containing non-standard terms. Coordinate approval processes for pre-award and post-award actions and approve such actions within delegated authority. Prepare, negotiate and execute subcontracts, subagreements and multiple campus agreements and monitor subrecipient compliance with prime award terms and conditions. Industry Sponsored Research (ISR) is responsible for the negotiation of certain agreements with the for-profit sector that relate to campus research activities. The negotiation and administration of industry-related agreements includes all agreements related to the support of research and scholarly training activities by for-profit entities, including, but not limited to, research agreements, material transfer agreements, collaboration agreements and confidentiality agreements. ISR also performs outreach to both the campus community and industry sector concerning technology transfer and research activities at UCI. Under the general direction of the Director of Industry Sponsored Research, the Industry Contracts Officer, acting on behalf of The Regents, is responsible for conducting high-level negotiations and executing often complex legal agreements related to the support of research and scholarly training activities by for-profit entities including, but not limited to, research agreements, material transfer agreements, collaboration agreements, industrial consortia memberships, memoranda of understanding, industrial consortia memberships and confidentiality agreements. The Industry Contracts Officer assures that such negotiations are accomplished in a manner that fosters productive and strong relationships with industry while addressing UCI's culture, mission, policies, practices and risk tolerances. The position of Industry Contracts Officer carries with it the delegated authority and the autonomy to act on behalf of The Regents in negotiations between UCI and sponsors of extramurally funded projects. **This is a Hybrid position**

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Advanced knowledge of contracting principles and practices, methods and procedures used in competitive procurement, including value analysis, and source selection techniques. Advanced written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; advanced ability to deal with broad and diverse constituencies using advanced customer service orientation and skills. Advanced knowledge of the organization, including its infrastructure, goals, mission, rules, policies, guidelines, etc. Advanced knowledge of contract law, the California Public Contract Code and an advanced understanding of University's Business and Finance Bulletins and other relevant rules, guidelines, policies and practices. Advanced organizational, presentation and negotiation skills. Advanced knowledge and understanding of specific contracting assignments. Advanced listening, political acumen skills and problem recognition, avoidance and resolution skills.
