Position Summary:
 
The UCI Human Resources (HR) enterprise is comprised of three unique business units: Medical Center, Health Sciences, and Main Campus. UCI HR’s vision is to empower people to drive a culture of innovation, learning, and service requirements that enables the success of individuals within the UCI community and those who aspire to join. Within HR, the Business Services team supports the transformation of HR strategy into action with efficient, minimal-risk, and timely services to HR employees; enabling them to more effectively and quickly meet organizational strategic goals. The Business Services team achieves this goal with consistent service-oriented performance; subject matter expert consultation; resourceful approach and innovative solutions; trusted partnerships; and an agile, adaptive, and engaged team culture.
 
The Finance Analyst serves as a senior member of the Business Services team within the Office of the Chief Human Resources Office/Vice Chancellor. Under the direction of the Director of Finance and Business Services, the incumbent provides financial analysis and management, accounting management, payroll coordination, and coordinates a variety of special projects. Independently maintains financial coordination over assigned accounts and funds. Independently analyzes financial data, prepares timely reports, and facilitates decision-making. Participates in the development, change, and implementation of financial guidelines. Assists the Director of Finance and Business Services with effectively managing a diverse set of fund sources, financial processes, and budget needs, within the client portfolio. Independently performs or oversees a variety of accounting functions, including accounts payable and reporting. Supports HR leadership in development, implementation, monitoring, projecting, and modification of budget requests. Provides consultation to stakeholders on policy or procedural questions. Oversees work of and trains all financial processors in the unit. Reviews and approves payroll transactions in UC PATH. Serves as back-up payroll processor. Serves as a contributing member of the Business Services team by supporting the team during peak periods in operational or event activities. As assigned, coordinates and executes on special projects, such as new system implementations, process redesigns, etc. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of financial practices and UCI policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues with innovative and practical solutions. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

$66,300 - $81,600

Required:
 
5-7 years with a BA/BS or equivalent experience.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of financial data and personnel matters and to handle sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
Ability to independently gather required information to organize and perform financial analysis assignments.
Ability to function as a member of a team.
Proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices or procedures to define the problem or objective, identify relevant concerns or factors; formulate logical and objective conclusions and recognize alternatives and their applications.
Working knowledge of payroll practices and policies.
Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
Proven interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; strong service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail.
Proven ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high-volume environment.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
Working knowledge of accounting concepts, policies, and appropriate ledger entries.
Proven ability using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
Knowledge and understanding of UC and UCI policies and procedures.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
 
Preferred:
 
Ability to effectively use UC/UCI online systems including Kuali Financial System, Cognos, UC PATH, etc.
