Position Summary:

The medical school nurtures the development of medical students, resident physicians and scholars in the clinical and basic sciences and supports the dissemination of research advances for the benefit of society.
 
The Academic Affairs Training Manager uses advanced skills and knowledge of UC System wide and / or organization academic HR policies and programs to address strategic academic personnel issues and to resolve complex issues and situations. Contributes to the development, facilitation, and monitoring of a comprehensive training program for new and existing staff specific to all Academic Affairs related matters including but not limited to recruitment, appointments, renewals, midcareer appraisals, merit and promotion, advancements, deferrals, reappointments, leave policies, non-reappointment, reduction in percentage of appointment, corrective action and dismissal, for faculty and non-faculty academics. The incumbent will identify training and development needs for units and/or staff in the School of Medicine. This may require one on one training to individuals as needs arise. The incumbent will identify training and development needs for units and/or staff in the School of Medicine. Prepare, develop, and present annual training to the School of Medicine Departments.
 
Compensation Range:
 
$80,600.00 - $121,700.00

Thorough knowledge of UC policies related to all Academic Actions for faculty and non-faculty academics. Basic knowledge of and ability to apply / interpret organization and college policies and procedures which govern academic HR. Knowledge of organization, college and departmental formal and informal policies and procedures and understanding of variances to stated policies. Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations. Demonstrated organization, problem solving, and communication and writing skills.
Six (6) years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two (2) years of related experience/training.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. Demonstrated initiative, tact and planning skills. Requires advanced knowledge of and ability to apply / interpret systemwide, organization and college policies and procedures which govern academic HR.
 
Preferred:
 
Advanced knowledge of systemwide and organization policies, union contracts, procedures and practices that govern academic HR administration. Advanced knowledge of organization and college goals, priorities and values and the legal and human implications of decisions. Ability to analyze complex management issues, develop project scope and solutions, give professional advice to senior officials and make critical decisions regarding personnel. Excellent critical and innovative thinking to address complex issues and present nuanced analyses.
 
Special Conditions Required:
 
Must be willing to work occasional overtime as needed for deadlines. Requires flexibility in work schedule to meet demanding and changing workload, in order to complete urgent and complex matters in a timely manner.
