Under general direction, incumbent manages all academic functions in the Department of Family Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery. This includes: equal opportunity/affirmative action issues, academic recruitment, appointments, merit increases, promotions, benefits, sabbaticals, grievances, layoffs and union issues, employee relations, compensation, training and development, and time and leave reporting. Advisor to the Chairs, Chief Administrative Officers (Department Administrators), faculty and staff for all academic personnel and human resources issues. Responsible for academic appointments and yearly renewals of all full-time and part-time faculties. Serves as a liaison to SOM Human Resources, with a working knowledge of all staff issues including collective bargaining and labor relations.

• B.A./B.S. and experience in personnel administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working knowledge of UC Human Resources and labor relations policies and procedures. Extensive knowledge of UC Academic Personnel policies and procedures. Demonstrated skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices and procedures to: define the problem or objective; identify relevant concerns or factors; identify patterns, tendencies and relationships; formulate logical and objective conclusions; recognize alternatives and their implications. Demonstrated experience with data collection techniques. Ability to develop and implement training programs and make presentations to large and small groups. Strong organizational and teamwork skills. Working knowledge of California laws and regulations pertaining to medical licensure and certificates of registration. Working knowledge of the UC Health Sciences Compensation Plan. Demonstrated experience working with confidential information and using sensitivity, tact and discretion in internal and external communications. Demonstrated skill to assess priorities in order to complete work in a timely manner in an environment of deadline constraints, competing priorities and heavy and changing workload. Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with campus administrators, faculty, staff and students from a variety of ethnic, social and educational backgrounds and to provide information, identify problems and develop solutions. Demonstrated knowledge and success to interpret, comprehend, and analyze various complex policies and procedures in the area of Academic Personnel. Demonstrated skill and proficiency to effectively utilize computerized business systems and software applications including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Visio. Demonstrated success in effectively utilizing the Internet and web search procedures. Experience completing web-based reporting mandates from federal agencies. Demonstrated ability and aptitude to quickly learn new software skills and understand interrelated computer systems. High level writing skills to compose professional reports, correspondence, job descriptions, policies and procedures, and other documents.
 
Preferred:
