Position Summary: 

Incumbent performs non-licensed medical care in the outpatient clinical setting. Performs clerical functions associated with the operations of a clinical office as necessary.

 

 

Salary Range: 

 

Hourly Rate  Minimum   $21.70                  Midpoint              $24.36               Maximum $27.01

Prepares the exam room and patient for clinic visit. Ensures an effective and efficient flow of patients.  Effectively prepares patient medical records for clinic visits.  Accurately takes and records vital signs including temperature, pulse, weight, respiratory rate, blood pressure, etc., documenting appropriately.  Acts as a liaison with the patient and physician.

Performs and/or assists with various office procedures, following infection control procedures.  Prepares patients for exams or procedures.   Collects or assists with specimen collection.  Accurately labels and delivers specimens as directed.  Completes injections, blood draws, EKG tests, skin tests, and other tests as directed. Receives and records lab and other test results and, when appropriate, relays results to patient.  Administers medications in a safe, effective and age appropriate manner, under the supervision of the Physician or RN and in compliance with all policies and regulations. Accurately performs requested diagnostic tests in the clinical area.

Enters information in patient charts and updates charts as necessary.

Reads messages, clarifies patient requests / information, and forwards to physician.  Follows up with patient in accordance with physician direction.

Provides accurate discharge orders to patients in accordance with all policies and regulations.  Provides educational materials to patients in accordance with physician direction.  Refers patient to appropriate resources and documents multidisciplinary planning.

Serves as first point of contact for patients.  Performs general clerical and reception functions associated with the operations of the clinic.  Answers incoming phone calls, maintains records, prepares reports and updates patient files. Reads messages, clarifies patient requests / information, and forwards to physician.  Follows up with patient in accordance with physician direction.

Registers patients as appropriate based on type of admission, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the information.  Appropriately schedules, reschedules, cancels or confirms patient appointments. Obtains demographic information from patients and enters into appropriate computer system.  Accurately reviews and verifies medical coverage and determines patient eligibility in relation to established program, insurance, or contract standards.  Makes financial or payment arrangements as necessary.  Counsels patients regarding insurance and eligibility Schedules, confirms, and cancels patient appointments. Accepts and processes cash payments according to established guidelines.

Required Qualifications:

 

 

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload

Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job

Understanding of medical terminology

Ability to work well in a constantly changing environment

Ability to communicate effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Medical Assistant Diploma or Certificate of Competency / Recognition in Medical Assisting Clinical / Back Office

BLS certification upon hire

Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Outpatient experience

Previous experience as a Medical Assistant in an ambulatory care setting

Flexibility to work variable shifts, including occasional weekends or holidays

Bilingual skill in Spanish or Vietnamese or Chinese

Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms

Phlebotomy certification
