Position Summary:
Reporting to the Anatomic Pathology Manager, incumbent is responsible for securing bodies from morgue and preparing them for autopsy. Assists in performing autopsies including weights and measures. Prepares body after autopsies, and completes the process through to mortuaries, ensuring the appropriate documentation and release of body. Preserves and prepares surgical and autopsy specimens for conference and further examination by pathologist. Labels and stores specimens. mixes preservative solutions. photographs bodies, autopsy, and surgical specimens. maintains records and supplies. maintains cleanliness of autopsy room, frozen section rooms, and the proper functioning of equipment. Performs special stains, directs the appropriate preparation of chemicals and reagents, and processes surgical specimens in the frozen section room. Ensures the proper storage and retrieval of all tissue specimens, paraffin blocks and microscopic slides. Perform computer data entry.
Salary Range:
Hourly Rate Minimum $33.80 Midpoint $33.80 Maximum $33.80
Required Qualifications:
Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
One year clinical laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must be willing to provide weekend and holiday coverage on a rotational basis and variable shift assignment(s) as needed
Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
Preferred Qualifications:
Good computer skills including knowledge of various software applications
Knowledge of laws and regulatory requirements relating to decedent affairs
Experience in an Anatomic Pathology department
Experience with autopsy tools and Stryker saw
Knowledge of anatomy and common medical terminology
Knowledge of hospital procedures and aseptic techniques on contaminated bodies
