Position Summary:
The UC Irvine Department of Chemistry is one of four departments in the School of Physical Sciences. We train thousands of general education students each year in Chemistry fundamentals and provide administrative support to our faculty and research staff, while providing world-class education and training for our student population while pushing the frontiers of knowledge through cutting edge research. The Department HR Team is a key part of a collaborative management team in the Department of Chemistry that works together to find innovative solutions and practices to achieve goals and improve practices with personnel/payroll actions. Under the general direction of the Chemistry Department HR Manager in the School of Physical Sciences, and the AirUCI ORU, the Payroll Analyst coordinates, processes, and performs all payroll functions in UCPath, time reporting, and recruitments. These responsibilities include coordinating onboarding for new hires, UCPath entries, Time Reporting System (TRS) timekeeping activities, recruitments, hiring, separating, and various other payroll transactions and adjustments. Creates and pulls reports for analysis and applies organizational policies and procedures to resolve a variety of payroll issues. Collaborates with HR Manager, Department Manager, and Dean's Office staff for resolution on a variety of complex payroll problems. Maintains statistical data, files, personnel, and payroll records. Works on payroll problems where analysis of situations requires data review of a variety of factors including employee labor distribution records, vacation and sick leave accrual, and overtime. Develops and implements Departmental policies and procedures and complies with all government reporting requirements for payroll taxes, withholding, an employer contributions. On occasion, provides administrative and general office support.

- Experience in one or more areas of Payroll Personnel, UCPath, Onboarding, and Time Reporting System (TRS) is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Demonstrated judgment and decision-making skills; verbal, written and active listening communication skills. Uses interpersonal skills and service orientation skills in interactions with customers and colleagues. Good organizational skills and ability to multi-task. Intermediate mathematical skills.
- Ability to be detailed oriented. Ability to perform complex analysis, gather data and produce complex reports. Problem solving, problem identification and reasoning skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction by being a self-starter in setting priorities and completing assignments with various deadlines on a timely basis.
Preferred:
Working knowledge of organizational processes, procedures, and understands organizational rules and regulations. Working knowledge of many payroll processes, policies, and procedures; knowledge of organization-specific computer application programs.
