Position Summary:
 
Ranked among the top neurology departments in the country by the National Institutes of Health, the UC Irvine Health School of Medicine's Department of Neurology is committed to advancing clinical care, education and research to help patients with diverse neurological conditions. The department’s 40 full-time teaching faculty members are highly-experienced clinicians who are devoted to training the next generation of neurologists.
 
Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, the incumbent will perform in vitro cell biological and preclinical animal studies which include cell culture, flow cytometry, direct mouse (housing, breeding, monitoring, weighing, measuring temperature, measuring tumor size using a caliper, among others).

Required:
 
  • Experience in cell culture, flow cytometry, breeding, weaning, and genotyping mice colonies, and in performing blood collection (from tail-vein and retro-orbital), as well as i.p., s.c., and i.v. (tail-vein and retroorbital) injections, and/or experience in tumor inoculation/measurement and rodent dissection is a plus. The incumbent should be familiar with cell biology skills and IACUC protocols and animal welfare regulations. Molecular biology skills and/or inventory management are a plus. Attention to details and good communication and organization skills are required. Proven ability to work in a fast-paced team environment is necessary.
  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and two years of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and one year of laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
  • General computer literacy & data entry/analysis experience. Previous work with mice/mouse husbandry. Handling lab supplies & equipment, inventory. Willing to work with mice. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to keep well-organized lab space and legible records. Laboratory research experience in a biochemistry/molecular biology laboratory.
 
Preferred:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree or currently majoring in Biological Sciences or related fields.
