Position Summary:
 
UCI MIND is an Organized Research Unit focusing on basic and clinical research in the fields of brain aging and cognitive disorders. Our mission is to discover means to improve the lives of people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. UCI MIND is committed to community education with the goals of keeping the community informed of our progress, sharing learnings that can help community members reduce their risk for dementia.
 
This position is within the UCI Model Organism Development and Evaluation for Late-onset Alzheimer’s disease (MODEL-AD) Disease Modeling Project (DMP) Core. MODEL-AD is a NIA / NIH-funded multi-project, multi-institutional grant whose goal is to produce the next generation of mouse models for late-onset AD and develop new therapeutic targets. Under supervision by the Project Scientist, the successful applicant will assist with analysis and evaluation of genotype of genetically modified animal (by PCR analysis and DNA sequencing), routine genotyping, and development of a new genotyping protocols, and report writing. This position also involves performing basic animal husbandry to assist the production flow.
 
Compensation Range:
 
24.77/hr-29.56
 
Required:
 
  •  Experience in PCR reaction or relevant molecular biology analysis
  •  Bachelor’s degree in biology, reproductive physiology, genetics, molecular biology or other closely related field. Alternately, minimum of 2 years prior work experience managing genetically modified mouse colony in a research laboratory setting.
  •  Strong verbal and written communication skills · Ability to participate in shared project management workflow (via Teams, Slack, Trello, etc) · Ability to see projects through to completion · Detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to maintain accurate and legible records to document progress and outcome of experiments, both hand-written and computer entry · Strong work ethic
 
Preferred:
 
  •  Experience in protein extraction, quantification and western blotting · Experience in designing PCR protocols.
 
Special Conditions Required:
 
  • Must wear protective clothing (PPE) provided. · May be required to work on weekends as needed.
