Position Summary:
With the acquisition of two important collections of California Art, The Irvine Museum Collection and The Buck Collection, the University of California, Irvine founded the UCI Institute and Museum of California Art in 2017, with plans to construct a new museum facility on campus by 2027. Following receipt of a naming gift in late 2021, the new entity is now known as UCI Jack and Shanaz Langson Institute and Museum of California Art (Langson IMCA). The museum serves as an epicenter for California Art and artists, and engages diverse publics through innovative exhibitions and programs. Its research institute supports collection research and advances interdisciplinary scholarship and learning opportunities for UCI students, faculty, visiting scholars, and others. Through a robust offering of exhibitions, gallery tours, artists talks, lectures, artist talks, publications, research initiatives, conferences, and other educational programs, Langson IMCA strives to expand the understanding of California’s artistic past and present, its distinctive social and cultural framework, and its contribution to both shaping and challenging the art historical canon. A key component of the Chancellor’s Arts and Culture Initiative, Langson IMCA is a start-up with limited, though growing, personnel and financial resources situated within a large, established and celebrated research institution that is part of the University of California public system.
The Executive Director of Development (EDOD) for UCI Jack and Shanaz Langson Institute and Museum of California Art (Langson IMCA) is a senior professional who will work collaboratively with the Museum Director, the Deputy Director, and University Advancement (UA) to lead the development program of Langson IMCA and secure significant philanthropic investments to support it. Will maintain a portfolio of donor prospects that include the most influential, complex or highest rated donors. The primary activity of the EDOD is externally focused to cultivate and secure private philanthropic support; the EDOD’s effectiveness will be evaluated on the ability to achieve financial goals and meet metrics. The EDOD reports directly to the Deputy Director, with a dotted line to University Advancement. The EDOD will serve as a member of the Langson IMCA’s leadership team and also be a highly collaborative colleague with other development officers across the campus.
