Position Summary:

 UCI Temporary Employment Services (TES) is continuously seeking applicants to assist in filling the temporary needs of the UC Irvine Campus in Irvine, the UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, and other UCI Satellite Clinics. We recruit for this position on an on-going basis in order to build a talent pool of potential candidates. 


We are seeking applicants with a wide range of experience providing a wide variety of patient care activities under the direction of appropriate registered nursing personnel.  They perform assigned nursing procedures for the safety, comfort and well-being of patients such as observing, recording and reporting to the appropriate Registered Nurse the physical and mental condition of the patients and changes in condition.


Duties for Licensed Vocational Nurse Assignment:


  • Administering drugs
  • Observing and recording reactions
  • Performing prescribed procedures such as enemas, douches, irrigations, hot and cold applications and changing dressings
  • Assisting physicians with examinations and treatments
  • Bathing and feeding patients
  • Helping patients into and out of bed and assisting them in ambulatory activities
  • Taking of patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration, and recording results on patients' charts
  • Collect specimens such as sputum and urine in containers, label, and send them to the laboratory for analysis

Total Compensation:

Temporary employees may be eligible for partial benefits based on full-time, 100% appointment and is subject to collective bargaining agreements. Compensation Range:


Minimum $27.24        Mid Point $30.07        Maximum $33.85




  • Valid Vocational Nurse License issued by the State of California Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Card by the American Heart Association




  • One year working experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse


Temporary Employment:


  • This is a temporary employment recruitment reporting to the UCI Temporary Employment Services (TES) Department.
  • Interviewing and hiring is based on internal hiring needs and how well the candidate's experience matches the assignment requirements.
  • Certain temporary assignments may require clearance of a health physical or require a valid California Driver’s License for driving university vehicles.
