Position Summary:

 
The Institute for Immunology (IFI) is seeking a highly-organized and detail-oriented individual to operate the IFI Core Facility. The incumbent will manage the Core’s instruments as a shared resource available to investigators both on and off campus, consult with anticipated users in the development of their grant proposals and projects, and assist users in developing and testing protocols for both existing and new applications. Furthermore, the incumbent will operate a BD FACSAria Fusion, BD FACS Aria II, Novocyte 3000, Novocyte Quanteon and Amnis Image Stream MK II, among other shared equipment, in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols with minimal directions; collect and analyze data; train and supervise lab support personnel on these and other lab equipment; develop and refine procedures to ensure accurate recharge billing for Core services. Administrative duties including budget management for the core facility, billing and invoicing, managing reservations and usage tracking through the iLabs website. The incumbent is also an integral member of the facilities management team, with a focus on IFI shared equipment management and maintenance; working with IFI staff, faculty and other campus units to coordinate the maintenance of the IFI laboratories and common areas; facilitating smooth relocation of any necessary faculty, staff or equipment; assisting with coordination of timely laboratory equipment, chemical and supply purchases and deliveries; scheduling of timely preventive maintenance, and performing physical inventories of IFI equipment. The individual must be able to work independently under general supervision. Detailed analysis and summary reporting of the performed work will be provided to the IFI Core Director.

Work experience in operating a flow cytometer and/or fluorescence activated cell sorter, and in analyzing flow cytometric data
Minimum of bachelor’s degree in a scientific field

Computer Skills: Demonstrated ability to use common features of standard office computer software such as word processing and spreadsheets. Willingness to learn and to use new tools as they become available or as training is provided. Knowledge of position-specific software programs a plus.
