Position Summary: 
The incumbent performs abstracting and coding, using current coding practices, methodologies on all inpatient visits at UCI Medical Center.  The purpose of this position is to apply the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to individual patient health information for data retrieval, analysis and claims processing.  Accounts are coded utilizing 3M CAC systems for coding and data entry.

Salary Range: 
 
Hourly Rate  Minimum   $43.13                  Midpoint   $50.03               Maximum    $56.92

Required Qualifications: 
Credentialed as CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or CPC-H
User level experience using personal computers, particularly with encoding, abstracting and prospective payment grouper systems
Knowledge of ICD-9 CM and CPT coding
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in the department and across the Health System
Skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of the job duties
Skill to effectively assign codes
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, disease process and medical terminology
Ability to work independently and be a self starter
Minimum 1.5 years of acute hospital, inpatient coding experience or 1 year of Coder Trainee experience
