Position Summary:
The UC Irvine School of Medicine Department of Physiology & Biophysics is dedicated to conducting innovative, cutting-edge research, engaging in high-level service, and providing excellent educational opportunities and mentoring to students, postdoctoral fellows and residents in the discipline of physiology and biophysics.
The Wagar lab investigates the human adaptive immune responses to infectious diseases, vaccines, and other immune therapeutics using organoid technology. We are looking for a lab assistant to join the lab and contribute to our efforts to accelerate vaccine design. Responsibilities will include assisting other lab members with their experiments, contributing to tissue collection efforts, and general lab maintenance. Although experience in a research lab environment would be helpful, we are also happy to train an eager, motivated individual who wants to gain research experience. The lab assistant will learn a variety of cutting-edge immunological techniques, work closely with our lively team of postdocs and grad students, and participate in lab discussions about data interpretation and experiment planning. The lab is highly collaborative and there will be numerous opportunities to interact with other research groups and contribute to publications. The Wagar lab has membership in the Vaccine R&D Center, Institute for Immunology, Center for Virus Research, and the Cancer Research Institute. No specific job experience is required for this position. However, candidates who are familiar with working in a biology research laboratory environment (and/or familiar with immunological techniques) will be preferred.
Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and bachelor’s degree in a biomedical-related discipline.
Preferred:
6 months of experience in an immunology research laboratory Familiarity with cell culture techniques, including BSL2 agents Familiarity with flow cytometry techniques.
Special Conditions Required:
Irregular work schedule (occasional) Ability to travel (~13 miles) to and from the UCI Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Orange County, and the UCI campus (most expedient way is by motor vehicle).
