Position Summary:

 

The Cellular and Molecular Immunology Lab of Gavin Herbert Eye Institute at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology anticipates an opening for the Lab Manager position.

Applications are being sought from recent M.S., Ph.D., and/or M.D. graduates in the field of Immunology, Virology, Cellular and Molecular Biology or equivalent.

The incumbent will be expected to manage all research aspects of The Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Immunology.  In addition to some bench and animal work including BSL3.  This will require management skills of 1) acquiring and maintaining inventory of mRNA vaccines, adenovirus peptides, antibodies, virus stocks, monoclonal antibodies, and all lab reagents 2) monitoring of lab equipment such as freezers, biosafety cabinets, flow cytometers, and liquid nitrogen tanks, ELISA readers, PCR Machines, Luminex, Flow Cytometer etc. 3) oversight of animal studies (mice, rabbit, guinea pigs, and hamsters) and breeding, and 4) interface with key stakeholders such as Project Management, Finance and Procurement.  The incumbent will plan and manage experiments with researchers and facilitate writing of study reports 5) writing reports, first draft papers and grants.

$66,700.00 - $118,500.00 (Annual Salary)

Required:

  • Monitoring of lab equipment such as freezers, biosafety cabinets, flow cytometers, and liquid nitrogen tanks, ELISA readers, PCR Machines, Luminex, Flow Cytometer etc.
  • Oversight of animal studies (mice, rabbit, guinea pigs, and hamsters) and breeding
  • Interface with key stakeholders such as Project Management, Finance and Procurement.  The incumbent will plan and manage experiments with researchers and facilitate writing of study reports 5) writing reports, first draft papers, and grants.
  • Provides research, logistical, and operational support to all trainees working in the laboratory. 

 

  • Ensures quality control and compliance with protocols and regulations. Receives research laboratory objectives, supervises lab personnel, and strategic project management. 

 

  • Keeps detailed and organized calendars for multiple commitments.  Communicates with faculty regarding calendars and changes in schedules.

 

  • Makes various arrangements for meetings and events associated with lab meetings.  This includes but not limited to reserving conference rooms.

 

  • Assesses the supplies and equipment needed and works with the purchasing team to submit requests.

 

  • Contacts vendor when equipment repairs are needed.
     
Preferred:
  • Must be willing to work variable shifts and hours required and/or needed. 
  • Leadership skills associated with planning work assignments, establishing priorities and scheduling instructional space. 
  • Solid interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff. 
  • Knowledge of data acquisition and analysis techniques. 
  • Advanced knowledge of research discipline or instructional design to collaborate effectively with faculty and function as a resource to research and instructional associates. 
  • Solid interpersonal communication skills to effectively supervise staff. 
  • Ability to conduct and report on scientific experiments and findings. 
  • Knowledge of necessary lab safety procedures and requirements, as well as chemical disposal guidelines.
