Position Summary:

The Director of Financial Operations, acting under the general direction of the Assistant Dean, has broad range financial and administrative responsibilities as the Chief Financial Officer of the Claire Trevor School of The Arts. This position has the responsibility for the development and recommendation of School-wide policies and procedures, coordinates the budget planning and allocation process, implementation and maintenance of effective accounting systems and management controls for all financial resources of the school. Represents the School to all other campus units on financial matters of interest or concern to the school. As a key member of the management team, the Director is accountable to the Dean and Assistant Dean in providing resource and policy analysis to support school management and long-range strategic planning.

Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Manages, prepares, administers, and directs control of budget / organization resources. Manages the activities of the financial / resource analyst staff. Reviews and approves recommendations for financial planning and control. Monitors division and department adherence to approved budget. Provides guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established policies. Work is reviewed and measured based on meeting objectives and schedules. Follows processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules.

$123,150.00 - $168,250.00 (Annual Salary) Expected Pay Range within the Full Salary Range $100,600.00 - $190,800.00 (Annual Salary)


 

Required:

8-10 years of professional experience in accounting, business or a related/transferable field of study.

Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Comprehensive knowledge of finance and budget policies, practices and systems; budgeting and reporting techniques; fund accounting; human resource planning; accounting and bookkeeping. Demonstrated skill in financial analysis, reporting, planning, projections, preparation and administration of budget with multiple funding sources. Demonstrated skill in performing financial accounting transactions such as debiting, crediting, preparing journal entries, reconciling expenses and projecting trends. Ability to create, customize, and integrate complex financial systems University Kuali Financial System, IBM Cognos reports, Microsoft Access and Excel. Demonstrated skill in supervision including: organizing workflow to accomplish established objectives, delegating responsibility, training, evaluating subordinate performance/effectiveness, administering necessary discipline. Analytical and problem-solving skills required to identify problems, gather data, analyze information, make recommendations, implement solutions, and evaluate results. Knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels; ability to interact with diverse populations. Client services oriented, good listening, critical thinking, and analytical skills. Ability to multi-task. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentially and security of records and documents.


 

Preferred:

Professional certification preferred.

Working knowledge of UCI policies and procedures relating to accounting, contracts and grants, purchasing, payroll/personnel and ability to interpret and apply appropriately.
