Position Summary:
The assistant/technician will help in managing our animal colony, including breeding, genotyping, tail snips, paw tattooing, weaning, database management, and may developing/performing pharmacological, behavioral, molecular genetic, neurochemistry, biochemistry and/or brain imaging techniques in order to discover underlying mechanisms influencing adolescent and adult addiction. In addition to managing the animal colony, the temporary assistant/technician may also help in laboratory procedures, including but not limited to making standard solutions, collecting data, maintaining laboratory notebooks, running animal behavior or imaging tasks, analyzing data, ordering supplies/equipment, maintaining/running laboratory equipment/tasks, organizing tissue samples, keeping laboratory facilities clean and sanitary, and preparation of grants/manuscripts for submission. The assistant may have the opportunity to develop innovative brain imaging tools to study the effects of drugs of abuse on brain development, including radioligand binding, in situ hybridization and/or immunohistochemistry.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $19.69 - $19.69 (Hourly Rate). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $19.69 - $22.82 (Hourly Rate).

Required:
- No experience required. Prior animal colony maintenance experience would be appreciated.
- Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
- Skill to communicate and interact effectively and pleasantly with colleagues, faculty, students, and community leaders, from multiple cultures
- Knowledge and experience with SQL database, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator Understanding of medical terminology
- Skill to determine priorities based on general instructions and accumulated knowledge
- Knowledge and skills to efficiently operate in a PC and MAC environment
- Ability to analyze and take action on complex matters, documents, and tasks. Ability to take the initiative and independently respond to requests in writing, in person, or over telephone
- Accurate typing skills, data entry skills, file organizational skills, filing skills, appropriate telephone skills and pleasant telephone etiquette, ability to carefully and accurately proofread own and other’s materials
- Ability to appropriately set priorities and work independently Ability to work in a dynamic environment of rapidly changing priorities and frequent interruptions
- Experience with Adobe Director MX and its language, Lingo, Adobe Flash 8, Actionscript 2.0, XML formatting, IT/IS domain of knowledge and understanding and writing visual basic scripts
