Position Summary:
 
The School of Medicine Office of Research, co-led by the Vice Dean for Basic Science Research and the Vice Dean for Clinical Research, oversees all basic science, clinical and translational research activities in the School of Medicine.
 
Fulfills primary responsibility for a specific area of interest with a broader research grant program initiative. The Clinical Research Grant Writer will report administratively to the Research Development Unit Manager with a matrix reporting structure to the Director for Research Operations and Vice Dean of Clinical Research in the School of Medicine Office of Research. This position works closely with School of Medicine faculty, residents, and fellows to assist them with writing grants, scientific manuscripts, abstracts, and other scientific writing, as well as IRB & clinical trial protocols to ensure successful submissions. This position works with the primary author to ensure stylistic conformity, logical organization of text, and rational development of the scientific argument, and ensures that the final product and all components are optimal prior to submission and address the sponsor’s criteria. This position requires project management skills to coordinate all stakeholders in the grant application process and maintain a database of grant funding submissions to produce annual and quarterly reports on the status of all grants.
 
Compensation Range:
 
Annually: $59,200.00 - $86,700.00

Required:
 
Academic background and experience in selected area of research required.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience / training.
Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures, and techniques.
Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsor guidelines.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers, managers, and teams.
Proven program planning and management of projects.
 
Preferred:
 
Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration. Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
Academic or industry experience in successfully writing grants and protocols and obtaining funding preferred.
