Position Summary: 
Reporting to the Senior Director of General Services, performs professional purchasing work for procurement of equipment (including capital equipment), supplies, and services of highly complex technical and specialized items which are designed and manufactured exclusively to meet the University's specific needs and specifications. Incumbent will independently handle difficult negotiations with vendors and requires extensive knowledge of sources of supply, interpretations of specifications, and possible substitutions. Promotes the most effective use of funds in the acquisition of assigned commodities in accordance with policies and procedures. Work is reviewed in terms of meeting specific turnaround times, goals, and objectives. May supervise the work of other purchasing staff.
 
 
Salary Range:
 
Annual Rate  Minimum  $80,600.00                 Midpoint         $121,700.00               Maximum             $162,800.00
 
Required Qualifications:
 
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
Project Management skills
Four (4) years of previous experience, preferably in a hospital or a large, complex healthcare system, or equivalent University purchasing experience.  In lieu of direct hospital experience, may consider experience with a medical, surgical, laboratory, pharmacy distributor, wholesaler, and/or manufacturer in supply chain, procurement, contracting, sales, and/or account management role(s).  Experience in supply chain management with strong background in finance/decision support analytics.  Must be able to articulate documented savings and supporting details.
Experience in complex RFP preparation.  Must have demonstrated knowledge of procurement practices and procedures, and demonstrated knowledge of vendor sourcing and negotiation techniques.  Familiarity with strategic sourcing concepts and practices.
Advanced-level Excel skills.
Extensive experience negotiating and analyzing data required.
Demonstrated ability to initiate and facilitate problem-solving processes when issue or concerns are identified.
Ability to be successful in a self-directed, fast-paced environment with changing deadlines and priorities.
Ability to understand and conduct financial analysis and quantitative/qualitative assessment of data.
Ability to skillfully represent UCI Medical Center in contract negotiations and deal effectively with a wide variety of medical center personnel, vendors and customers.
Advanced skills in successfully utilizing contract negotiation tactics to achieve financial results beneficial to UCI Medical Center.
Thorough knowledge in vendor relations, negotiations, contract management, and financial terms.
Travel between procurement office and medical center locations, other travel up to 10%
 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, either in business or health care related field preferred.
A recognized materials management certification such as AHRMM or American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) is preferred.
Knowledge of modern Material Management Information Systems (MMIS) preferred.
