Position Summary:
 
Under direction of the Department Fiscal Officer, incumbent is responsible for the fiscal management of assigned federal and private contracts and grants including reconciliation, financial reporting, analysis, and consultation with the PI and/or Fiscal Officer. Incumbent has responsibility for policy analysis/interpretation and in-depth problem solving that requires on-going interaction with all levels of agency administrators, University faculty, and administrative staff. Under direction, incumbent is responsible for the accounting, reporting, projection and budgeting of all assigned funds including assigned discretionary and faculty set-up accounts. Incumbent is responsible for ensuring compliance with University and agency policies and procedures for expenditures and controls. Incumbent is responsible for processing all internal billing, inter-campus recharges, and outside billing for UCI Genomics High Throughput Facility (GHTF).

Required:
 
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Experience working in an academic or research setting. Skill to perform work independently, organizing and prioritizing a diverse workload. Demonstrated skill to use PC equipment, word processing in a Windows environment as well as other windows applications such as Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to facilitate document translation between MAC and PC. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft desktop publishing software and appropriate applications. Demonstrated knowledge of professional telephone etiquette and ability to accurately record detailed messages. Proficiency in maintaining calendars and scheduling meetings. Ability to coordinate travel arrangements. Demonstrated experience in accurate word processing and typing a high volume of material from dictation or handwritten copy, knowledge of proper typing formats. Proven ability to work independently and follow through on assignments. Strong organizational skills. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Strong proofreading skills. Ability to interpret and follow detailed instruction. Effective communication skills in order to represent the department orally and in writing, to University and external constituencies. Strong interpersonal skills to relate effectively with University and external constituencies. Demonstrated skill in analyzing information, situations and policy. Ability to interact effectively as a team member with a diverse group of people. Skill to process mail, reviewing and prioritizing for action and/or dissemination. Ability to deal with changing priorities associated with deadlines. Ability to problem-solve.
 
Preferred:
 
Working knowledge of UC forms, policies and procedures. Working knowledge of UCI accounting principles and procedures. Working knowledge of UCI accounting documents and on-line financial systems. Working knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
